The Research Into Use (RIU) program aims to accumulate and evaluate evidence to shape and share lessons on how best to enable innovation in the agricultural sector so as to achieve social and economic gains in diverse developing country settings:
sharing lessons to enable innovation in agriculture
RIU has established six Africa Country Programmes.
The rationale of these programmes is that currently mechanisms to articulate the demand for research and other information are poorly developed. The country programmes are therefore experimenting with a variety of networking approaches to establish better linkages between the research, entrepreneurial, policy and farming communities with a view to strengthening innovation capacity.
Livestock production and health
A major focus of RIU’s work is looking at new and improved approaches to livestock production and health at various points along livestock value chains – from production, through storage, processing and marketing, to consumption.
The RIU experiment includes looking at innovative ways of enabling livestock research to be put into use. In each of the RIU programme sections there is a description of how this is being done.
